Using most of the Strepsiptera in the world’s collections, this monograph gives an extensive survey of the morphology of this small order of Insect parasites. The first part is a describing “morphogramme” of the order, illustrated by 182 figures. It reveals a series of structures hitherto unknown (e.g. the genital tube of Mengenillidae, the Nasonov glands of Halictoxenos, vestigia of frontal ocelli), revises and increases our knowledge of all other structures, and rectifies many misinterpretations in the past. In the second part interpretations are attempted from the morphogenetical, functional and phylogenetical viewpoints.
