Subject of the studies were gold deposits in the Palaeoproterozoic domain of Ghana and the Archaean terrains of Zimbabwe and Tansania. The work in Ghana concentrated on vein and lode-type mineralizations in the Ashanti belt, emphasizing the Ashanti mine, placer deposits at Tarkawa and gold occurrences of the Nangodi area.
In Tanzania, the Geita deposit and gold-quartz vein mineralizations in the Nyarkagwe region were considered. The deposits studied in Zimbabwe include the B-rich vein mineralizations at Indarama and Beligwe Star mines, the granitoid hosted Eureka mine near Guruve, the Redwing mine at Penhalonga/Mutare (volcanic hosted) as well as the mineralizations at the Royal Family and Nando Pinkun mines which are hosted in black schists.
The participating working groups have applied a wide range of conventional and novel approaches to study the gold deposits and present models of the genesis of different types of gold mineralizations.
A study of the electrochemical behaviour of gold in water/rock systems and a contribution on the process mineralogy of gold conclude this volume.
