Call for papers: Special Issue on Geomorphological Hazards and Risk Management
Geomorphic hazards are increasing in many regions, causing economic loss, damage, loss of human life and big changes in the landscape forms and in its dynamics. These processes occur in complex environments at global, regional, and local scales and, because of this, it is important to find and apply innovative scientific approaches and new types of data collection to improve our knowledge on natural hazards.
Building on the “Geomorphological Hazards and Risk Management” session at the 10th IAG International Conference on Geomorphology, but open to contributions from the wider geomorphological community, this Special Issue aims to publish a collection of papers dedicated to original research that focus on empirical studies, and observations which present innovative research and case studies based on the interaction between the complex morphological processes (pluvial, fluvial, gravitational, hydrogeomorphological, pedological, including earthquakes and volcanic processes).
This Special Issue of Zeitschrift für Geomorphologie aims to gather contributions from the following research fields:
- The latest scientific advancements in Geomorphology, including new techniques and methods: numerical, statistical and machine learning models, geochronological methods, UAV survey, digital elevation models, GIS resources and geomorphic mapping;
- Improvement of approaches, at different scales, for natural hazards inventory, geomorphic hazard, vulnerability, and risk analysis;
- The importance of geomorphic hazards studies for risk mitigation and reduction of societal effects and increase of human communities’ resilience.
If you are interested in contributing to this special issue, please send an email to Susana Pereira (sspereira@letras.up.pt) indicating the title of your planned research paper and an abstract. The special issue submission deadline is 28 February 2024.
