Cyanostylon gelatinosus, a new species (Chroococcaceae, Cyanophyceae) from São Paulo State, Brazil

Abstract

A new species of Cyanophyceae, Cyanostylon gelatinosus is described. It was found growing on rocky walls in a subaerial cave near the Atlantic Ocean. It is characterized by thallus densely gelatinous, formed by stalks-like mucilaginous sheath; by 1 or 2 rounded cells placed at the apical parts of the mucilaginous thallus; cell division in 3 planes and the habitat.
