Abstract
Collections of detrital materials have been made from the bottom of shallow rock pools on the plateau of Table Mountain, Cape Town, and from similar pools near the summit of Bretagne Rock in the Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve, Paarl, South Africa. Both sites are subject to frequent desiccation. They revealed two new species of Cosmarium and what is proposed as a new desmid genus, Cruciangulum, described herewith.
