Four new species of micro land snail in the genus Bensonella Pilsbry & Vanatta, 1900 (Stylommatophora: Hypselostomatidae) from Thailand

Abstract

We describe 4 new species of micro land snail in the genus Bensonella from northern Thailand, namely B. geminounca Jirapatrasilp & Tongkerd, n. sp., B. nordsiecki Jirapatrasilp & Tongkerd, n. sp., B. palatotridens Jirapatrasilp & Tongkerd, n. sp., and B. multihami Jirapatrasilp & Tongkerd, n. sp. All 4 new species co-occur at Doi Chiang Dao, Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary, Chiang Mai, Thailand, the type locality, and one species, B. multihami n. sp. was also found at the nearby Doi Ang Khang. The discovery of these new species within the same site undoubtedly indicates that Doi Chiang Dao is an important biodiversity hotspot in Thailand and mainland Southeast Asia.
