Abstract
The effects of the plant growth hormones IAA, GA3, ABA and Kinetin upon Aphis fabae Scopoli 1763 on Vicia faba-plants and upon 7 different aphid species bred on an artificial diet were examined. In addition the receptivity of 4 aphid species for these plant growth hormones was tested with the help of radioactive marking. IAA, ABA and above all Kinetin influenced the development and reproduction of A. fabae on V. faba. The body size of the imagines of 4 aphid species was strongly reduced on Kinetin-plants. The artificially fed aphids were bred on the complete diet for 6 generations as far as possible. This succeeded with Myzus persicae (Sulzer 1776) (excepting on the GA3-diet), with A. fabae and for the first time also with Sitobion avenae (Fabricius 1775). IAA, GA3, ABA and Kinetin, added to the diet, influenced the development and reproduction of the examined aphids only slightly. With the exception of Metopolophium dirhodum (Walker 1849) through ABA, the body size was not influenced. The formation of winged morphs occurred in a higher number only with Aulacorthum solani (Kaltenbach 1843) in the F2 fed on the IAA-, GA3 and Kinetin-diet. The receptivity for IAA and ABA is very different for the examined aphid species, whereas it is generally small for GA3 and large for Kinetin.
