Abstract

The mating behavior of Tetrastichus hagenowii Ratzeburg 1852 was observed using a pair of unmated adults in a small test tube. The ♂♂ approach the ♀♀ after perceiving a ♀ sex pheromone. The ♂♂ show a zigzag walk and intermittently wing-vibrations. They then mount ♀♀ and start antennal stimulation. The receptive ♀♀ respond to ♂ antennal quivering by lifting abdomen. Copulation takes place immediately following the backward moving of the ♂♂. Sex pheromone was extracted from ♀ bodies with ether. Impregnation of the extract on a capillary induced zigzag approach and wing-vibrations.
