Abstract
The mating behavior of Asteia elegantula [Zetterstedt 1847] is described. Males form leks on leaves or twigs of different plants, into which females fly and land. As part of its courtship behavior, the male offers the female a regurgitated droplet, which she devours during the early stages of mating. After copulation the male searches for remains of the droplet on the leaf and eats them. A short review of similar cases of mating trophallaxis in insects is given, and the behavior of A. elegantula is compared with some of them. Known and new data on the biology of members of the Asteiidae are recorded.
