Kurzfassung
Vom 26. bis 27. September und 13. bis 15. Oktober 1963 regnete es in Tripoli und in der Djeffara Tripolitaniens so stark, daß Teile der Stadt überschwemmt wurden, das Wadi Megenin selbst im kanalisierten Teil über die Ufer trat und an seiner Mündung ein beachtliches Delta hervorbrachte. Darüber hinaus verflachte der westlich benachbarte Strand über mehr als einen Kilometer erheblich. Starke Regenfälle sind im Winter in Tripolitanien nicht selten. Für die Monate September und Oktober sind sie jedoch ungewöhnlich. Etwa zur gleichen Zeit regnete es auch entlang der Küste bis in die Gegend von Syrte sehr stark und - was in erster Linie bemerkenswert ist - in großen Teilen des Fezzans.
Abstract
From September 26 to 27 and October 13 to 15, 1963, it rained so heavily in Tripoli and the Djeffara region of Tripolitania that parts of the city were flooded, the Wadi Megenin itself overflowed its banks in the canalized section, and a considerable delta formed at its mouth. Furthermore, the beach to the west became significantly shallower over a distance of more than a kilometer. Heavy rainfall is not uncommon in Tripolitania during the winter. However, it is unusual for the months of September and October. Around the same time, it also rained very heavily along the coast as far as the area of Syrte and—most notably—in large parts of the Fezzan.
