Die Bewertungskriterien sind geologischer, mineralogischer, chemisch-physikalischer, wirtschaftlicher und technischer Art und werden ergänzt durch Angaben zur Lagerstättenbildung, zur Möglichkeit der Substitution von Rohstoffen und den daraus hergestellten Produkten und abgeschlossen durch eine Auswahl grundlegender Schriften.
Besonders wichtig bei der Beurteilung eines Rohstoffes sind seine qualitativen Eigenschaften. Sie werden im Kapitel Rohstoffanforderungen zusammenfassend beschrieben, und zwar in Abhängigkeit vom jeweils möglichen Einsatzgebiet. Erst die genaue Kenntnis der stofflichen Spezifikationen des jeweiligen Rohstoffes ermöglicht eine Aussage darüber, in welchen Industriezweigen er eingesetzt werden kann. Die mitgeteilten Werte sind als Orientierungswerte (Richtwerte) anzusehen.
Non-metallic mineral raw materials, or industrial minerals and rocks, are of extraordinary importance for the economical development of a country, worldwide. Geologists must increasingly assess mineral occurrences with respect to their minability. Rawmaterials are dealt with including those which are little known or not being used in Germany, but are well known abroad. Trade with industrial minerals and rocks is becoming increasingly international. Therefore, not only the geologist involved in Technical Cooperation projects is being confronted with "exotic" raw materials. In the thirteenth of a series of publications, the assessment criteria for berylliumminerals, bromine, iodine, graphite, manganese minerals, zeolites are presented in detail.
The assessment criteria are of geological, mineralogical, chemical-physical, economical and technical nature and are supplemented by information on the genesis, possibilities for substitution of rawmaterials and their manufactured products. A selection of basic references is also provided.
The qualitative properties of a raw material are of prime importance for its assessment. The qualitative properties are summarized in the chapter on Raw Materials Requirements with respect to their possible application. A decision about which industry can utilize a given raw material can be made only when the properties of that material are precisely known. The reported values are meant as approximate values.
