Download as PDF1. Aims and scope of Anthropologischer Anzeiger
Anthropologischer Anzeiger publishes original contributions in English language in the field of biological anthropology and their marginal fields as population genetics, hominide evolution, palaeoanthropology and historical anthropology, primatology, morphology, growth and adolescence, forensic anthropology.
The papers should not exceed 18 printed pages.
All contributions are subject to peer-review.
Anthropologischer Anzeiger fully complies with the open access requirements of UKRI, Wellcome, and NIHR. Where required by their funder, authors retain the right to distribute their author accepted manuscript (AAM), such as via an institutional and/or subject repository (e.g. Europe PMC), under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence for release not earlier than the date of first online publication.

4. Online Access
Anthropologischer Anzeiger is available online at https://www.schweizerbart.de/journals/anthranz. It participates the CrossRef Service which allows direct access to referenced papers (published in other journals) which are available online. Conversely, papers in other journals are now able to link to papers published in Anthropologischer Anzeiger by placing direct links.
5. Optional Open Access
Anthropologischer Anzeiger offers optional open access publication to all authors. All optional open access papers are published under the Creative Commons CC BY-NC license, which allows free distribution, but prohibits commercial exploitation. Authors retain the copyright of their papers. For details click the menu button "Open Access / Color fees " on the journal ́s websitehttps://www.schweizerbart.de/journals/anthranz.
6. Submission of manuscript

Submission of a manuscript to the electronic Manuscript Management System for publication in Anthropologischer Anzeiger is considered binding assurance that this work has not been and will not be published elsewhere in this form and length.
7. Manuscript preparation
The manuscripts must be prepared by a word processor (if possible Word for Windows). Text should be single line spaced. Please activate line numbering: File/pagesetup/page layout: Show line numbers, Line numbering: Continuous/Begin with line 1.
Block letters, hard returns at the end of the lines within a paragraph and manual word hyphenation have to be avoided.
Manuscript structure
Title page contains:- Title
- Complete names of the author/s and authors' institute locations
- full address and email address of the corresponding author
- number of figures and tables
- Summary
- Keywords
The manuscript must be marked up according to the rules of Anthropologischer Anzeiger. Bold-face for titles and headings. Systematic names of genus and species have to be italicised, not families and higher categories. Underlining should be avoided.
Figures
Page charge for colour figures: An extra page charge of 34.90 € per page will be applied for publishing colour figures online and in print. After receiving the manuscript, the publishers will inform the authors about further details.
Numbering and layout: All figures appearing in the text have to be numbered consecutively and the file name has to be labelled in with first author’s name and figure number, respectively. Figures should be added as separate files (accepted data formats see below). All details of the figures must be clearly readable when reduced to the printing area of Anthropologischer Anzeiger. It has to be marked up in the manuscript where figures should be placed.
Resolution of figure files and data formats: Figures must have at least 600 dpi (better 1200 dpi) when producing line drawings, photographs a minimum of 300 dpi. Please embed the fonts.
Data formats: Accepted formats are tif, eps, and pdf; for photos jpg or tif.
Figure captions: A detailed and complete caption of each figure has to be added at the end of the manuscript.
Tables
Tables have to be numbered consecutively and should be placed with their headings on separate pages at the end of the manuscript. Please mark up in the text where tables have to be placed. For measurements and weight indications please use metric units only.
Literature references
All publications referred to in the text, tables and figures captions must include the name of the author(s) or the name of the first author with the addition et al. and the year of publication date in parentheses. All publications referred to in the text must be included in the reference list and vice versa.
We strongly recommend authors to use the APA 6 reference style to format references. EndNote users can download the EndNote style file

Authors not using EndNote shall follow the APA 6 reference formatting style. If possible, please also supply the Endnote reference file.

8. Proof reading
The authors (the first-named author for multi-author-papers) will receive a pdf of the page proof via email. This page proof has to be checked and the corrections have to be returned via email to the publishers immediately. In cases where the author is prevented from making corrections, he/she should appoint a representative to check the proofs. Only typesetting errors or small technical changes are allowed to be made; otherwise the authors will be charged for additional costs. If the corrections are not returned in time, the paper will be published without author's corrections.
9. Reprints
Authors will receive free of charge a pdf-file (for personal use only) after publication of the printed issue. Paper reprints are available at cost price.
10. PrePub (pre-print-publication):
Manuscripts that are ready to be printed (i.e. accepted by the editors, composed, the proofs checked by the authors and author's corrections included) will be made available online prior to printed publication. Title and abstracts as well as author’s names will be accessible by all visitors of the Anthropologischer Anzeiger online version. Full text will be available for online journal subscribers. Papers have a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) assigned and may be cited. This service gives the opportunity to have articles available well in advance of their actual printed publication date. We offer this service to all authors of Anthropologischer Anzeiger free of charge. As soon as a paper has been published PrePub, the paper will also be listed in PubMed.
11. Copyright
With acceptance and publication of a manuscript the exclusive copyright for every language and country is transferred to the publishers. The copyright covers both the exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the article including reprints, microfilm or any other reproduction and the right to distribute as electronic file and to save in data processing systems.
12. Declaration
Studies published in the Anthropologischer Anzeiger must be performed according to the formal statement on proper treatments of human subjects:
Any submitted paper has to follow the safeguarding principles of Good Scientific Practice. Research involving Human and Animal Subjects must have been approved by the author’s institutional review board. Authors must include in the Methods section a brief statement identifying the institutional and/or licensing committee approving the experiments. For experiments involving human subjects, authors must also include a statement confirming that informed consent was obtained from all subjects. All experiments involving human subjects must have been conducted according to the principles expressed in the Declaration of Helsinki.
The manuscript must correspond to high scientific standards which are clearly quoted at form No. 67.60 (see https://www.dfg.de) The author/s is/are asked to expressly confirm that her,his/their contribution was written according to these rules.
