Call for papers: Meteorologische Zeitschrift Special Issue “The Future of Seamless Forecasting: Data, Models and AI”

This special issue aims to explore recent advances and future directions in seamless forecasting, with a focus on nowcasting and very short-range numerical weather prediction (NWP). We invite contributions that address innovations in:
• data assimilation,
• numerical modeling,
• postprocessing techniques,
• the integration of ensemble prediction systems,
• the integration of observational data.

Particular emphasis is placed on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in enhancing predictive capabilities, improving uncertainty quantification, and refining postprocessing methods. Contributions covering practical applications, case studies, and novel methodologies that bridge traditional NWP approaches with AI-driven techniques are especially welcome.

In this special issue, we seek to highlight interdisciplinary efforts that drive the evolution of high-resolution, data-driven, and adaptive weather forecasting systems.
