Abstract
During an NSF-sponsored exchange visit to the USA the first author isolated an axenic culture of a Scenedesmus obliquus from the Nile (Egypt) and grew dense cultures. When subjected to nitrogen limitation at 15-17 °C, abundant gametes, cytologically identical to previous reports, were produced.
