Abstract
Fossil Parmacellidae are reported for the first time in Italy. The fossils were found in two sites of different age: Monticino Quarry (Brisighella, Forli) (Late Turolian) and Campiglia di Foci and Buliciano (Colle Val d'Elsa, Siena) (Middle Upper Pliocene - Middle Pleistocene ?). Comparison with the shells of almost all the species of the living Parmacellidae suggests that fossils from Campiglia and Buliciano belong to a Parmacella (s. s.) close to the group of forms P. valencienni - P. deshayesi - P. tenerifensis - P. ibera. The fossils from Monticino appear to belong to a different taxon but the fragmentary condition of the material makes any conclusion impossible.
