Abstract

Abstract The activity of Fe3O4 in Fe3O4-Fe2TiO4 solid solutions has been experimentally determined at 800 oC and 900 oC at 1 atm pressure. The activity-composition relations deviate markedly from "ideal" (a = X2) behavior, requiring consideration of Fe2+-Fe3+ order on the ulvöspinel-magnetite join. We have developed a solution model that takes explicit account of order-disorder and the measured activity-composition relations. The derived interaction parameters fit our activity-composition data together with other activity and cation distribution data available in the literature over the temperature range of 800-13002C
