Abstract
The principal legends used for continental and world metallogenic maps (scales 1:2500000-1:10000000) are described briefly and compared. Three basic styles have evolved, the Russian, European and American. None is simple; each has its advantages. Maps of single-country areas, USSR and Australia, have been published. The map of Europe and neighboring countries is nearing completion (6 of 9 sheets published); maps of the other continents are in preparation or planning (Africa) stage. A true world map to a uniform legend may be achieved in the 1980's with the aid of the computer.

Les légendes principales utilisées pour des cartes métallogéniques continentales et mondiales (échelles 1:2500000 jusqu'a 1:10000000) sont décrites brievement et sont comparées entre elles. Trois types fondamentaux ont evolués: Russe, Européain, et Américain. Aucun est simple; chacun a ses avantages. Des cartes pour des pays isolés, l'USSR et l'Australie, ont été publiées. La carte de l'Europe et les pays avoisinants approche son achèvement (de neuf feuilles six sont publiées). Des cartes d'autres continents sont en cours de préparation ou dans une phase d'organisation (l' Afrique). Une véritable carte mondiale avec une légende uniforme pour ra-t-ètre atteinte dans les années 1980, avec l'aide d'un ordinateur.
