Kurzfassung
Werden die Ammoniten-Septen entgegen der zur Zeit geläufigen Auffassung nicht von ihrem mineralisierten Zustand, sondern von der organischen Vorform aus betrachtet, so ergibt sich ein geschlossenes Modell, das sich mathematisch-physikalisch formulieren läßt. Das Modell wird an Modifikationen der realen Septenmorphologie überprüft. Schließlich kann die Konstruktionsmorphologie der Septen im wesentlichen auf eine Variable zurückgeführt werden, den Innendruck des Phragmokons.
Abstract
In contrast to current opinion, the morphology of the ammonite septum is explained from its organic pre-form, rather than from its mineralized stage. This model is formulated in mathematical-physical terms and tested against actual modifications. Essentially, the constructional morphology of ectocochleate septa can be referred to one main variable - the pressure inside the phragmocone.
