Wandel der Lebensräume im kantabrischen Variszikum

[change of the habitats in variscan orogeny]

Kullmann, J.

Abstract

(1) In the Cantabrian Mountains, a facies change from extreme shallow water conditions to moderately shallow and deeper still water conditions occurred in early or late Siegenian time. This facies change coincided with the global phenomenon of the maximum of brachiopod and coral provincialism as well as with the origin of several new groups, including the Ammonoidea and several families of Rugosa. (2) The ammonoid and coral faunas of the Lower Carboniferous continued to be cosmopolitan till the lower Namurian; the ammonoids experienced a radation and drastic increase of their taxa in the upper Viséan. These faunas disappeared after shallow water conditions had been established as a result of first tectonic movements of the Variscan orogeny.
