Abstract
All living crocodiles show a similar, very characteristic anatomy. As amphibious carnivores, their mode of life is heavily linked to the water habitat, which provides them, mainly in the juvenile stage, with protection and food. Systematically the Recent crocodiles are divided into three groups: Alligatoridae, Crocodylidae and Gavialidae. The groups are easily distinguished by their skull characters.
