Abstract
Paleoecological associations are the result of biological and sedimentological processes. If the influence of physical factors on associations is known, then a special association can be used to reconstruct the original physical background. At least we have the problem of proper classification of associations and/or species within a paleoecological framework. A classification will be useful if it reflects clusters of faunistic composition, which do not overlap, or where the area of overlap is so small that in most cases a decision on the membership of a sample will be possible.
