Abstract
A preliminary PAUP-analysis of euryapsid interrelationships within diapsid reptiles shows the Euryapsida to be the sister group of the Lepidosauriformes (Kuehneosauridae, Rhynchocephalia [Gephyrosaurus and Sphenodontida], and Squamata) within the Lepidosauromorpha. Various character manipulations indicate that the presence of a lower temporal fenestra (with loss of lower temporal arch) is always assigned to the basal node of the Euryapsida; the fenestra is secondarily closed in Placodus. Addition of euryapsid taxa to the data matrix of diapsid reptiles renders the position of the Prolacertiformes within the Archosauromorpha unstable.
Kurzfassung
Die PAUP-Analyse der Verwandtschaft der Euryapsida innerhalb der diapsiden Reptilien stellt die mesozoische Gruppe in die Verwandtschaft der Lepidosauromorpha als Schwestergruppe der Lepidosauriformes (Kuehneosauridae, Rhynchocephalia [Gephyrosaurus und Sphenodontida] und Squamata). Zahlreiche Merkmalsmanipulationen führen zum Schluß, daß die Euryapsida primär ein unteres Schläfenfenster besitzen (sekundär geschlossen in Placodus}). Die Addition euryapsider Taxa zur Merkmalsliste der diapsiden Reptilien stellt die Stellung der Prolacertiformes innerhalb der Archosauromorpha potentiell in Frage.
