Abstract
The Andam Formation at Qarn Mahatta Humaid is a very shallow-marine to supratidal sequence of carbonates and clastics which has yielded the first Cambrian body fossils from the Arabian Peninsula. The trilobites indicate a range of ages spanning the Upper Cambrian Kushanian to Fengshanian Stages, in terms of Chinese stratigraphic divisions. The fauna compares closely with others from Iran, Afghanistan, Vietnam, North China, South Korea and Australia, and confirm that the Arabian Peninsula was part of tropical Gondwana by Cambrian times. There is no reason to compare the Amdan Formation with the Amdeh Fm. of the Oman Mountains or the Saq Fm. of Saudi Arabia.
