Abstract
A critical list of fossil Aeshnidae is realised. Numerous fossil Aeshnidae are of uncertain position. Better known genera and species often present great interest for phylogenetic and palaeobiogeographic reconstructions. Gomphaeschnini and Gynacanthini are well represented by numerous holarctic fossil taxa. Other Aeshnid groups, like Aeshnini, are poorly known, most by incertae sedis. Fossil Gomphaeschnini and Gynacanthini suggest warm paleoclimates and presence of ancient entomofaunas in westeuropean Cenozoic. Fossils demonstrate that Aeshnoidea are very old, probably Lower or Mid-Jurassic age.
