Abstract
Jürgen Armin Boy was born in the city of Neukuhren north of Königsberg in Ostpreußen (East Prussia) on August 26th, 1938. The beautiful birthplace near the Kurisches Haff, presently located within the Russian exclave Kaliningrad, was home to a tribe of people whose liberal attitude, modest mode of life, open-mindedness, and exactitude together form a unique composition of characters. When fleeing the approaching Red Army in 1945, the family missed a ship bound to be destroyed and managed to survive the journey with another ship also hit by a bomb; these stark impressions have undoubtedly helped to shape the mind of the would-be natural scientist. The Prussian characters that Jürgen Boy took with him clearly had an impact on his scientific work, and we shall come back to this point.
