Abstract
Evolutionary relationships within the family Hoplitidae are investigated, and indicate a substantially different content to that proposed by the Treatise (Wright 1996). The group is descended from Sonneratiinae and comprises a simple linear evolutionary sequence beginning in the late Early Albian and terminating at the end of the Early Cenomanian. To reflect evolutionary relationships the following new genera are introduced: Destombesites, Amedroites, Proeuhoplites, Savelievella, Spathoplites and Wrightoplites. Neotypes are designated and figured for a number of species.
