Abstract

Diverse Late Cretaceous assemblages of decapod crustaceans from the Gulf Coastal Plain, USA, have yielded numerous new taxa and new occurrences. New palinurid lobsters include Linuparus shacklefordae n. sp. and Palinurus? sauerweinorum n. sp. Among the podotrematous crabs, the following are new: the homoloid Ripleycarcinus primaevus n. gen., n. sp.; the palaeocorystoid Ripleycorystes cardwelli n. gen., n. sp.; the raninoid Symethoides danieli n. sp.; the dakoticancroid Tropidicarcinus n. gen. with two new species, T. mcanallyae and T. starnesi; and the cyclodorippoid Gyroplanus sapphirinus n. gen., n. sp. New eubrachyurans include the retroplumoid Archaeopus diabolus n. sp. The material is largely from Santonian, Campanian, and Maastrichtian sediments of Mississippi, although other notable occurrences are included. The new data suggest that localities in the North Atlantic proximal to the Chicxulub, Mexico, impact area suffered higher percentages of generic and family level decapod extinction than localities more distal to that area.
