Abstract

The first-ever Serbian fossil insects from the Early Miocene fine-layered marl deposits of the Valjevo-Mionica Basin in western Serbia are provided with palaeontological and palaeoecological characteristics. The material includes eight specimens of insects. The lowest taxonomic category that was possible to determine is the family. Three specimens were classified into the families Libellulidae, Pentatomidae, and Bibionidae. Two specimens were identified at the level of suborder: Apocrita and Brachycera; unfortunately, three others are not possible to determine.
