Relationships of main structural elements of Calabria (Southern Italy)

Abstract

Six main structural elements are identified in Calabria: the Apennine Range, the Hercynian Range, the Stilo Unit, the Alpine Range, the Tiriolo Unit (hitherto indicated as the “Stilo Unit” outcropping in the Sila Piccola) and the Monte Gariglione Unit. The principal characteristics {tectonic structure, lithology and metamorphism) are detailed for each of these elements and the relationships with the other structural elements are discussed, as is the age of emplacement.

Kurzfassung

Es werden 6 Hauptstrukturelemente in Calabrien festgestellt: Apennin -Zone, Hercynische Zone, Stilo-Einheit, Alpine Zone, Tiriolo-Einheit (bisher als »Stilo-Einheit« bezeichnet, innerhalb der Sila Piccola aufgeschlossen) und die Monte-Gariglione-Einheit. Die wesentlichen Charakterzüge (Tektonik, Lithologie und Metamorphose) jedes dieser Elemente werden beschrieben und ihre Beziehungen zueinander diskutiert.
