Supposed coleoid remains reinterpreted as fish scales

Riccardi, A. C.; Sabattini, N.

Abstract

Several structures from the Carboniferous of central Patagonia closely resemble structures from the Pennsylvanian of Mazon Creek, Illinois, that were tentatively assigned to the Coleoid Jeletzkya douglassae Johnson & Richardson. All are reinterpreted as ridge scales of palaeoniscid fish, based on morphology and mineralogical composition.
