Possible relationships between anomalous conodonts and Silurian oceanic episodes

Abstract
Many ramiform conodont elements with distinct anomalies are reported from the Pol. siluricus Zone of Sardinia. Such specimens are grouped into five informal morphological groups and may be related to a “P-episode” of the oceanic cycles of Jeppsson. A correlation between the presence of such specimens and oceanic episodes, as well as an explanatory hypothesis, is suggested also on the bases of other anomalous conodonts, all reported in the literature from “P-episodes”.
Kurzfassung
Zahlreiche ramiforme Conodontenelemente mit deutlichen Anomalien werden aus der Pol. siluricus-Zone von Sardinien beschrieben. Diese Exemplare, die zu fünf informellen morphologischen Gruppen gehören, scheinen mit einer „P-Episode“ der ozeanischen Zyklen von Jeppsson in Zusammenhang zu stehen. Basierend auf anderen abnormalen Conodonten, die alle von anderen Autoren aus „P-Episoden“ beschrieben wurden, wird eine Korrelation zwischen dem Vorkommen solcher Exemplare und ozeanischen Episoden her- sowie eine erklärende Hypothese vorgestellt.
