Abstract
Late Viséan outcrops in the southeast of Ireland show a complete limestone succession from the late Asbian to the lower late Brigantian, overlain by an unconformable Namurian siliciclastic succession. Several stratigraphic sections have been sampled in detail, and the algal content analysed. Five algal assemblages are recognized; algal assemblages A to C in the late Asbian, and algal assemblages D and E in the Brigantian. They are compared to algal records from other districts in Ireland and in northern England.
Kurzfassung
Eine komplette Karbonatabfolge des oberen Asbium bis in das tiefere obere Brigantium (Ober-Viséum) im Südosten Irlands wird von namurischen Siliziklastika diskordant überlagert. Mehrere oberviséische Profile wurden detailliert beprobt und auf ihre Algenflora analysiert. Fünf Algenassoziation können differenziert werden, die Algen-Assoziationen A-C im oberen Asbium und die Algen-Assoziationen D und E im Brigantium. Sie werden mit Algen-Assoziationen aus anderen irischen und nordenglischen Vorkommen verglichen.
