Sulfur Isotopes in Metamorphic Rocks

Zheng, Yong-Fei

Abstract

A summary of the isotope geochemistry of sulfur in metamorphic rocks and a discussion of the behaviour of sulfur isotopes during metamorphism are presented here. Sulfur isotope data for schists, gneisses, amphibolites and granulites are used to illustrate that studies of sulfur isotopes in metamorphic rocks may be useful for simulating metamorphic processes. Metamorphic disequilibrium fractionation between different sulfur species helps to distinguish fluid-absent metamorphism from fluid-present metamorphism.
