Abstract
Evidence from both natural occurrences and hydrothermal syntheses suggests that hyalite is deposited as a result of chemical transport in the vapour phase. The material, both natural and synthetic, resembles silica glass in many respects but also fulfils the criteria for opal-A and should be classed as such in spite of the contrasted origin.
Kurzfassung
Natürliche Vorkommen und Hydrothermalsynthesen führen zu der Auffassung, daß Hyalit durch chemische Transportreaktionen aus fluider Phase abgeschieden wurde. Sowohl natürlicher als auch synthetischer Hyalit ist in vieler Hinsicht Kieselglas ähnlich, entspricht aber auch den Kriterien für Opal-A. Es wird daher vorgeschlagen, Hyalith trotz seiner anderen Genese in diese Gruppe einzureihen.
