Abstract

Eighty samples of tourmaline have been analyzed using emission spectrography for Sn with the following results: The Sn contents in the schorlites from normal pegmatites are lower than 0.003 %, those of the schorlites from tinbearing areas (e. g. the Krušné hory Mountains) are on the average 0.006 %. The average Sn contents of the schorlites and polychrome lithium tourmalines from complex lithium pegmatites are 0.005 % and 0.010%, respectively. The Sn contents of tourmalines display a positive correlation with fluorine. The Sn contents in tourmalines are controlled by the Sn concentrations of the mother fluids which is reflected by the presence or absence of cassiterite in the rock. During the crystallization of pegmatites, the Sn contents in tourmalines may either increase or decrease.
