Abstract

236 (214) chemical analyses of natural Bi-bearing fahlores from published sources were examined for compositional variation and element relationships. The evaluation of the data revealed that Bi substitutes both for Sb and As. The maximum Bi content found in our data base is 1.69 atoms per formula unit. Distinct antipathetic relations were found between Bi-Ag, and Bi-Hg. Calculations on the basis of element substitutions show that the cell size increases with increasing Bi content both in tetrahedrite and tennantite.
