Abstract
As a consequence of state employees' regulations, Dr. Dieter Stoppel, for many years one of our Managing Editors, attained his retirement age end of March 1998 and, therefore, concluded his activity in the NoS Editorial Board. We are sad about the fact that we in the future have to miss his competent advice in our work, characterized by his overall and universal idea on geoscience and deep stratigraphical knowledge, and we have to thank him cordially for all he did in favour of NoS.
