Abstract
The study focuses on the biotechnological potential of Haematococcus pluvialis Flotow ACOI 3380. Growth of motile cells and cysts was estimated, fatty acid composition, pigments and total biomass value were determined. The biomass of motile cells after 29 days of growth was 0.072 g/l and that of cysts after 26 days was 0.278 g/l. Stearic and palmitic acids were the most abundant fatty acids in the motile cells and cysts, with 47.57% and 32.57% of the total combined fatty acids, respectively. The main carotenoid identified in the cells was astaxanthin. Our results indicate a possibly interesting use of this ACOI strain for the improvement of human health.
