Abstract
We present a revision of the Puccinia species (rust fungi, Uredinales) parasitizing plants of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). Twenty-seven species are recognized, described in detail and illustrated. A key is provided to facilitate their determination. The genus Solanum is parasitized by 17 different Puccinia species, thirteen of them found in the Americas, three in Asia, and one in Africa. Puccinia capsici from Colombia is resurrected. It includes the synonymous younger names P. gonzalezii and P. buriticae. Puccinia impressa from Costa Rica is reduced to a synomym of the Central and North American P. incondita. In addition, P. nierembergiae from Peru and Chile is excluded from the list of species infecting Solanaceae.
