Abstract

Ganoderma pakistanicum is described as a new species from two Pakistani specimens recently collected on false ashoka trees (Monoon longifolium). This species is characterized by sessile, dimidiate basidiomata, a sulcate, yellowish brown to brown, laccate pilear surface, broadly ellipsoid to ovoid basidiospores measuring 8.2–8.9 × 5.0–5.8 µm, digitated, up to antler-like cuticular cells, and subglobose chlamydospores with ornamentation. Morphologically, G. pakistanicum resembles G. enigmatum, G. casuarinicola and G. aridicola. G. enigmatum differs mainly in its stipitate basidiome and narrowly ovoid, slightly longer basidiospores measuring 8–11 × 3.5–6 µm. G. casuarinicola differs in apically rounded cuticular cells and basidiospores are larger measuring 9.9–11.2 (–12) × 6.7–7.3 µm. G. aridicola differs in reddish brown to black pilear surface on drying, short cuticular cells and larger basidiospores measuring 9.7–11.2 × 7–7.8 µm. In the ITS-based phylogeny, G. pakistanicum is nested within the Ganoderma single clade as a distinct lineage. Two ITS sequences cluster in a well-supported lineage together with G. casuarinicola, G. enigmaticum, and G. aridicola together. Descriptions, illustrations with color photographs of the novel species are provided.
