Abstract
Tetramyxa marina sp. n., parasitic in Halophila stipulacea, and possibly H. ovalis, in the Red Sea is described. Its effect on the infected host is compared to that of other species of Tetramyxa and to that of other parasitic fungi of Halophila. The life cycle of Tetramyxa and the susceptibility of Halophila to fungal parasites are discussed.
Résumé
Tetramyxa marina sp. n. est décrit comme parasite d'Halophila stipulacea et peutêtre aussi d’H. ovalis de la Mer Rouge. La réaction de l’hôte à Tetramyxa marina est comparé à celle provoquée par d’autres espèces de Tetramyxa et à celle d’autres champignons parasites d'Halophila. Le cycle de développement de Tetramyxa et la sensibilité d'Halophila aux champignons parasites ont été discutés.
Kurzfassung
Tetramyxa marina sp. n. ein im Roten Meer auf Halophila stipulacea und vielleicht auch auf H. ovalis vorkommender Parasit wird beschrieben. Die Wirkung auf den Wirt wird mit derjenigen weiterer Tetramyxa- Arten sowie mit der anderer auf Halophila parasitischer Pilze verglichen Der Entwicklungszyklus von Tetramyxa und die Empfänglichkeit von Halophila für Pilzinfektionen werden diskutiert.
