Abstract
Eight identified species of Agaricus and 2 unidentified ones are described and reported in this paper. Six species have been earlier described by Mendoza and Palo with the generic name Psalliota. Descriptions of new criteria pertinent to modern taxonomic concepts are included. One species, A. hemilasius was identified by Dr. D. N. Pegler of Kew Herbarium. This species, together with A. goosensiae are reported for the first time in the Philippines. All specimens are deposited at the Mycological and Pathological Herbarium of the University of the Philippines at Los Banos. Duplicate specimens of some species are deposited at the Kew Herbarium. Majestic Mt. Makiling, “standing guard” over the campus of the University of the Philippines at Los Banos, is considered a naturalist’s paradise. It is one of the best known biological areas in the Philippines as well as of the better known ones in the Orient of tropics. Trelease and McLean (1919) estimated that the collection of C. F. Baker, O. H. Reinking and others indicated that the number of fungi and other nonvascular plants was correspondingly large as compared with the number in the entire U. S. A. Approximately 60% of the known Philippine fungi, several described as new, find their origin in the Makiling area (Pancho, 1973). It is for this reason that the authors have embarked an intensive survey of the Agaricales, to recollect and redescribe each species on the basis of modern taxonomic criteria and to record and name those species new to science.
