Abstract

In a survey of thermophilic fungi from different substrates, a number of them have been isolated in India. Six of the isolates are being described here in the first paper of the series. They are Mucor pusillus, Rhizopus chinensis, Corynascus sepedonium, Acrophialophora fusispora, Aspergillus fischeri and a new thermophilic mutant of A. fumigatus. The first of these species was reported earlier (Mehrotra & Basu, 1976) from wheat grains and milling fractions. The third and fourth species were reported by Evans (1969, 1971) from coal spoil tips of Britain as thermophilic fungi but the second, fifth and the mutant of the sixth species have never been reported earlier as thermophilic fungi.
