Abstract

In several-week-old cultures of Euglena geniculata Duj., E. deses Ehr. (strain 1224-19a), E. anabaena var. minor Mainx (strain 1224-2), E. viridis Ehr. (strain 1224-17b) divisions of parent cells into three, four, six and seven offsprings were observed. After fixing material and staining nuclei with acetic orcein the presence of cells containing more than two nuclei, and resulting from synchronic or nonsynchronic nucleus divisions was revealed. The cytokinesis of such cells were on equal or unequal parts. The possible implications of the wide-spread occurrence of such aberrative cell divisions for the phylogeny of Euglenophyta have been discussed.

Kurzfassung

In mehrwöchigen Algenkulturen von Euglena geniculata Duj., E. deses Ehr. (Stamm 1224-19a), E. anabaena var. minor Mainx (Stamm 1224-2), E. viridis Ehr.
