Abstract

A new species of silica-scale bearing Chrysophyceae from Florida (Paraphysomonas amphiplana) and an enigmatic taxon from Iowa and Florida are described based upon observations of scales and bristles made with transmission electron microscopy. Comparisons with morphologically similar species are discussed. Habitat characteristics and co-occurring species of silica-scaled Chrysophyceae are noted.
