Abstract

The family Diatrypaceae is very poorly investigated. There is no agreement among the authors even in respect of genera of this family: their number varies from 4 (Tiffany, Gilman 1965) to 12-13 (Dennis 1968; Wehmeyer 1975). E. Müller and J. A. von Arx (1973) reported that species of the genera Diatrype and Diatrypella are difficult to differentiate. We already have made the attempt to clear up the generic criteria in this family (Vasilyeva 1984, 1985). For this purpose we gathered the original diagnoses of all species (approximately 2000) ever referring to the Diatrypaceae and looked through all available herbarium material (LE and VLA).
