Abstract
Two names from South America, Grimmia stenophyxis Ther. from Ecuador and G. itatiaiensis Broth, from Brazil, are synonyms of G. affinis Hornsch. Grimmia strictifolia Mitt, from Sikkim is synonymous with G. atrata Mielich. ex Hornsch. Grimmia nepalensis and G. inflectens, both described by Mitten from Nepal are synonymous. Grimmia scabrifolia Broth, from Hawaii is synonymous with Schistidium strictum (Turn. ) Loeske ex O. Mart, and G. ehlei Arnell from Siberia is synonymous with Schistidium tenerum (Zett.) Nyh. In all, six new synonyms are reported here for Grimmia and Schistidium.
