Abstract

Dilabifilum arthopyreniae (Vischer et Klement) Tsch.-Woess (Chaetophorales, Chlorophyta) was isolated from a crevice of a granite boulder on the sea-shore in Japan. This is the first record of this species in Japan. Under culture conditions the alga reproduced by zoospores, aplanospores and thallus fragmentation. Morphology was identical when grown in fresh and sea-water media. This seems to be a consequence of adaptation to a harsh habitat in the littoral fringe.
