Abstract
The knowledge of Hedwig's life is relatively poor and mainly based on Schwägrichens biographical notes published in the "Species Muscorum" and on a handwritten biography in the possession of his second wife dated from June 10, 1814. Several biographies were published after his death (Anonymous 1801, 1848, Deleuze 1805, Heitmann 1980, Margadant 1968, Römer 1908, Trausch 1870, amongst others), which, however, mostly contain the same facts in other words.
