Abstract

The isolated genus Rhodoplagiochila Schust., with only R. rosea, is described and illustrated. Although distinct from all other Plagiochilaceae in the rose-red shoot apices of living plants (this pigment disappears in death), the extraordinarily long cilia, the slight transgression of the leaf insertions dorsally, Rhodoplagiochila has a Plagiochila-like perianth and androecia. The erect growth and free development of leafless/microphyllous geotropic branches and the lateral-intercalary sparing branching can also be seen in other Plagiochilaceae.
